I have been working in bookkeeping/consulting for 26 years and feel that bookkeeping is becoming a lost art. With the inception of new and more automated accounting software products, it seems that many people prefer to do data entry into these software programs. I myself have used many of these automated products and found a catch 22. The automation is supposed to make the job easier, and it does in many ways, but in fact when a mistake occurs, you still need some bookkeeping and computer experience to find the transaction, see what was done and make the appropriate journal entry to correct it. This process can waste hours of your time. Software limitations can also be a problem. Seldom do people run their business the way a software product wants journal entries to be made. I found myself spending more time making products work, than doing the actual bookkeeping. Thank goodness I encountered NewViews.
